Room 5K represents grade five monkeys (well . . . not really, but they sure act like them at times) from several different countries. Room 5K is taught by Ken Derby - an ugly gorilla (well . . . not really, but he sure acts like one at times) from the United States. Being a member of Room 5K promises to be a memorable and fun experience for all. It has been said that "strange things occur in Room 5K." There is no doubt that this is true. But what really does occur in 5K? It is not known for sure, but it has been rumored that the following things have occurred within the five walls of 5K: musical artist of the day, worm eating, chili pepper tasting, dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha during birthday celebrations . . . and whatever! Every member of Room 5K is encouraged to have fun, take intelligent risks, and learn within a comfortable environment; as, this is the path to success. Room 5K encourages all "Net" surfers to check out personal autobiographies, photos, and some projects posted on this site. The Room 5K gorilla promotes the use of the writing process in his classroom. He feels that quality is more important than quantity. Each piece of writing that a 5K monkey produces has gone through several drafts. Most of the writing posted on this web site has gone through several drafts over a period of several days. Thus, the 5K monkeys do not produce large quantities of writing pieces, but concentrate on one piece until it is ready to be published. The 5K monkeys work hard throughout the seemingly non-stop writing process and are proud of the work they produce.
By now, many of you "Net" surfers probably wonder what all this monkey business is about. Room 5K suggests that you read “Sideways Stories From Wayside School” by Louis Sachar. Upon completing this book, you will understand why Room 5K is full of grade five monkeys.
